Are you supporting our troops?

"Freedom is the sure possesion of those alone who have the courage
to defend it."
As someone who has kinfolk serving in the Armed Forces and in the Middle East, I found myself thinking of those sevice members who may not have family back home to send them packages and letters to help keep the morale up. At one time, the military used to allow cards, packages and letters addressed to "Any Service Member" but because of the post 9/11 world we live in and the Anthrax scare following it, the military no longer allows this. However, there are several recognized organizations that you can contact that are looking for folks like you and me, who can donate money or volunteer time to help put together a care package that can keep morale up for a soldier.
One of the easiest ways to help is through the USO's Operation USO Care Package. Do you have $25 to spare? Can you go one week without spending 5 bucks on your lunch at McDonald's and instead bring in a brown bag lunch to work? Is that new CD release really more important to you to buy, than the idea of a US service member having a package of needed and requested items to help them get through their time?
"The United Service Organization (USO) has created Operation USO Care Package to boost morale among troops participating in Operation Enduring Freedom. These care packages contain an assortment of items that our military service members have specifically requested, such as 100 minute prepaid international calling cards, disposable cameras, toiletries and sunscreen. Additionally, the care packages include a personal message from the American public in support of their mission and sacrifice."
Twenty-five dollars purchases one package. And folks, that one package could make a world of difference for one soldier. So do yourself a favor. Forgo that CD for now. Brown bag your lunch for a week. Help keep our troops morale up and show your support for them. I don't care what your personal opinion is about the war. The men and women of the United States Armed Forces are doing a job and they need to know that we're behind them, no matter what.

I will be adding links to other organizations soon...
